Welcome to MaxCarTravel.com (“the Website”), operated by MAXCARTRAVEL, LDA (“the Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a luxury car rental service based in Portugal. By using our Website, you agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not accept these Terms, please do not use our services.

 1. General Rental Information

Important Documents
To rent a vehicle, the renter and any additional drivers must hold a valid driver’s license for at least one year and present it along with an identity card or passport upon vehicle delivery.

 EU and Other Licenses
– EU Licenses: Valid licenses from all EU countries are accepted.
– Non-Roman Alphabet Licenses: Licenses printed in non-Roman alphabets (e.g., Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic) must be accompanied by an International Driver’s Permit.
– Non-EU Licenses: Licenses from non-EU countries (excluding Switzerland) are accepted if:
– The renter does not have a visa.
– The renter has a visa but has been in Europe for fewer than six months. If they have stayed longer, an EU license is required.

Age Restrictions
All drivers must be at least 25 years old and have held a valid driver’s license for at least one year. Some vehicle rentals may have additional age and license restrictions, detailed during the booking process.

2. Payment Terms

Accepted Payment Methods
We accept the following:
– Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB; Visa Electron is not accepted)
– Cash, Crypto, Bank Transfer (SEPA), Revolut, Wise

Credit cards used for payment must be issued in the renter’s name and valid for at least one month after the rental period ends. A security deposit (€2,000 – €8,000) will be blocked on the main driver’s credit card or provided in cash.

Prepaid Bookings
For prepaid bookings, the rental charge is collected at booking and includes all applicable charges. The driver and payment method cannot be changed once confirmed. No refunds are issued for late collection, no-shows, or early returns.

Booking Changes
Prepaid bookings can be modified up to 48 hours before the rental starts, subject to availability and a €25 modification fee. Prepaid amounts are non-refundable, and changes may result in different rental rates. Changing from a prepaid to a non-prepaid rate is not allowed.

Cancellation Policy
For prepaid bookings, cancellations must be made before the rental begins. Cancellation fees apply as follows:
– 3 days before rental starts: 100% penalty.
– 7 days before rental starts: 60% penalty.
– 14 days before rental starts: 40% penalty.
– 30 days before rental starts: 30% penalty.

3. Protection and Insurance

All rentals include protection plans:
– Third-Party Liability: Covers up to €50 million for personal injuries and property damage.
– Loss Damage Waiver (LDW): Limits the renter’s financial liability for vehicle damage or theft. Renter responsibility varies by vehicle type.
– Tire and Glass Coverage: Protects against tire, windshield, and glass damage with no deductible.

Any unauthorized use of the vehicle, such as using it to transport dangerous goods, will void all protections. Protections are also void if the vehicle is driven by an unauthorized driver or by anyone without a valid license.

4. Cross-Border Rentals and Restrictions

Cross-border rentals are allowed by request only and may incur additional charges. Cross-border travel between mainland Portugal, Madeira, and the Azores is prohibited. Violating cross-border or territorial restrictions will void all protections.

5. Additional Services and Fees

Suppléments
Accessories and extras (e.g., child seats, GPS) are available on request and subject to availability.

Vehicle Delivery and Collection
We offer vehicle delivery and collection services within designated delivery zones.

Refueling Policy
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel. The vehicle must be returned with a full tank; otherwise, refueling charges and a refueling fee will apply.

Electronic Toll Service
All vehicles are equipped with an e-toll device for automated toll payments. Toll fees are billed directly to the renter’s credit card.

Additional Fees
– Traffic and Parking Fines: The renter is responsible for any fines incurred. A handling fee of €35 applies.
– Vehicle Cleaning: A cleaning fee will be charged if special cleaning (e.g., spill removal, odor neutralization) is required upon return.

6. VAT
All rates include VAT, where applicable. The standard VAT rate is 23% in mainland Portugal.

7. No-Show Policy
If the vehicle is not collected at the agreed time, the prepaid rental amount will be forfeited.
